Connectivity is rapidly becoming an essential part of everyday life in the Philippines as more Filipinos depend on mobile data for work, education, business, entertainment and financial transactions.
The growing reliance on internet access is changing how consumers view telecommunications. Once primarily associated with calls and text messaging, mobile networks now support a broad range of daily activities, from video streaming and social media to online shopping, gaming, digital payments, productivity platforms and artificial intelligence-powered applications.
This expanding role has positioned connectivity alongside traditional necessities such as water, electricity, gas and transportation, reinforcing its emerging importance as the country’s “fifth utility.”
Globe’s performance during the first half of 2026 reflects this continuing digital shift. The company reported that more than 39.6 million of its subscribers are actively using mobile data, highlighting the increasing dependence of Filipinos on internet connectivity.
Average monthly mobile data consumption also climbed to approximately 17 GB per subscriber, compared with 15 GB during the previous year. The increase was driven by greater use of digital platforms and services across different aspects of consumers’ personal and professional lives.
Data-related services have likewise become the dominant contributor to Globe’s business. During the first six months of 2026, data-driven revenues represented 91 percent of the company’s consolidated gross service revenues. The figure demonstrates how digital connectivity has increasingly become the primary channel through which customers communicate, access information, make transactions and participate in the digital economy.
Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz said the changing connectivity habits of Filipinos demonstrate the country’s continued transition toward becoming a digital nation. He added that the company intends to build on customers’ trust by continuously improving its network and providing dependable experiences.
Supporting this growing demand requires continued investment in infrastructure. Globe allocated ₱26.3 billion in capital expenditures during the first half of the year to expand and strengthen its digital network.
As mobile technology becomes increasingly embedded in everyday routines, reliable network capacity and stability will remain critical to the Philippines’ digital transformation.
With millions of customers consuming more data each month, Globe is strengthening its infrastructure to meet evolving requirements while supporting the digital services that increasingly influence how Filipinos live, work, learn and do business.
