Cebuana Lhuillier Strengthens Disaster Preparedness Nationwide

As the rainy season brings increased risks of flooding and other natural hazards, Cebuana Lhuillier has joined forces with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), to help Filipino communities become better prepared before disasters occur. The nationwide Disaster Preparedness Day initiative combines practical emergency education with accessible financial protection, reinforcing the importance of readiness and resilience among vulnerable households.

The program is being carried out in partnership with local government units (LGUs) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs). Its first phase covers key flood-prone areas, including Marikina City, Cebu City, and Cagayan de Oro, where families receive valuable knowledge and essential emergency supplies that can make a significant difference during times of crisis.

At every stop of the nationwide caravan, disaster management experts conduct preparedness seminars that teach residents how to respond effectively to emergencies before, during, and after disasters. These sessions cover practical safety measures, evacuation planning, and household preparedness, encouraging families to develop a culture of readiness rather than simply reacting when calamities strike.

To complement the educational sessions, Cebuana Lhuillier distributes Emergency Go-Bags to 100 families in each community. Each kit contains basic necessities such as bottled water, canned food, flashlights, whistles, first aid supplies, and other emergency essentials designed to help households cope during the critical hours following a disaster.

Beyond emergency preparedness, the initiative also highlights the importance of affordable financial protection through microinsurance, enabling families to recover more quickly after unforeseen events. By combining disaster education with accessible insurance solutions, the program provides communities with both the knowledge and the resources needed to minimize risks and rebuild with greater confidence.

“Our nationwide Disaster Preparedness Day reflects our commitment to making disaster preparedness and financial protection accessible to every Filipino family,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier. “By combining education, community engagement, and insurance, we are giving families both the knowledge and the safety net they need to face emergencies with confidence.”

Through this collaboration with the NDRRMC and the Office of Civil Defense, Cebuana Lhuillier continues to expand its role beyond financial services by supporting initiatives that protect lives and strengthen communities. As climate-related challenges continue to affect many parts of the country, the program serves as a reminder that preparedness, cooperation, and resilience remain the strongest foundations for helping Filipino families face disasters and recover with confidence.
