A new wave of opportunity is setting sail across the Philippines as Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and 2GO Travel join forces to empower Filipino entrepreneurs. Through a newly signed Memorandum of Agreement, the partnership aims to bring locally made products closer to more markets—using the country’s vast sea network as a bridge for growth.
At the heart of this collaboration is a shared goal: to strengthen the presence of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) beyond their local communities. By offering discounted sea travel rates exclusively for DTI-endorsed entrepreneurs, the initiative makes it easier for small business owners to participate in trade fairs across different regions. With up to 50 kilograms of baggage allowance included, transporting goods—from handmade crafts to regional delicacies—becomes more accessible and cost-efficient.
But the partnership goes beyond logistics. A standout feature of the initiative is the introduction of OTOP (One Town, One Product) Nooks onboard 2GO passenger vessels. These dedicated retail spaces transform ships into floating marketplaces, where travelers can discover and purchase proudly Filipino products while at sea. It’s a concept that not only supports MSMEs but also enriches the travel experience—turning every journey into an opportunity to explore local culture through its products.
According to DTI Undersecretary Blesila Lantayona, the initiative plays a vital role in expanding the reach of Filipino-made goods. By connecting entrepreneurs to a wider audience, it helps build stronger market presence while encouraging mobility and innovation among MSMEs. For many small business owners, this means greater visibility and the chance to grow beyond traditional selling channels.
From the perspective of 2GO Travel, the partnership reflects a deeper commitment to nation-building through connectivity. By opening its network to entrepreneurs, the company enables them to bring their products directly to consumers across key routes. It also highlights how transportation can serve as more than just a means of travel—it can be a platform for economic progress.
The collaboration, which first took shape with a regional rollout aboard MV 2GO Masinag, now expands nationwide. With OTOP Nooks set to be available across all 2GO passenger ships, the initiative is poised to create a ripple effect—linking islands, communities, and businesses through shared opportunity.
As these vessels sail from port to port, they now carry more than passengers. They carry stories of Filipino craftsmanship, ambition, and resilience—each product a testament to the growing spirit of local enterprise.
