Her Future, Her Terms

A new study from Manulife Philippines is shedding light on how young Filipinas are redefining what it means to build a secure and fulfilling future—placing equal importance on living well and living independently. According to the #FYP: Future-proofing Young Pinoys study, 60% of young Filipino women prioritize their healthspan, or the number of years they spend in good health, a figure notably higher than their male counterparts. At the same time, financial independence ranks just as high among women, signaling a strong desire to take control of both their well-being and their future.

But behind these aspirations lies a more complex reality. The same study reveals that 73% of women report experiencing high levels of stress, significantly more than men. This is largely shaped by the multiple roles many Filipinas juggle daily—balancing careers, family responsibilities, and personal commitments. The gap in work-life balance further reflects this strain, with more women feeling the pressure of managing competing demands.

These challenges often take a toll on everyday habits. A number of women report insufficient sleep and difficulty maintaining proper nutrition—two essential pillars of overall health. Interestingly, awareness is not lacking. Many women understand the importance of wellness, yet stress continues to stand in the way of turning knowledge into consistent action.

Recognizing these realities, Manulife Philippines is focusing on solutions that support both health and financial resilience. Through offerings such as HealthFlex, Medical Secure, and GoalReady, the company provides protection that spans from critical illness coverage to long-term financial planning. These tools are designed to help women navigate life’s uncertainties while staying on track with their goals.

Beyond products, initiatives like ManulifeMOVE promote healthier daily habits, while partnerships with organizations such as AC Health aim to improve awareness and access to preventive care, particularly in areas like cancer.

As Women’s Month highlights the strength and contributions of Filipinas, the study serves as both a reflection and a call to action. Empowering women, it suggests, goes beyond recognition—it requires practical support that enables them to protect their health, grow their finances, and move forward with confidence in every stage of life.
