A New Landmark Rises in Zamboanga

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is set to mark a major milestone in its continued expansion with the opening of SM City Zamboanga on March 20—its 90th mall in the Philippines and eighth in Mindanao. More than just another retail space, the new four-level development signals a growing confidence in Zamboanga City’s economic potential and its role as a key regional hub in Mindanao.

Strategically located along Mayor Vitaliano Agan Avenue in Barangay Camino Nuevo, the new mall builds on the success of SM City Mindpro, which opened in 2020. With over 42,000 square meters of gross leasable space, SM City Zamboanga is designed to meet the evolving needs of a vibrant and diverse community, offering a dynamic mix of retail, dining, entertainment, and lifestyle experiences.

According to SM Prime President Jeffrey C. Lim, the expansion reflects the company’s commitment to supporting emerging cities. He emphasized that Zamboanga’s strong economic activity and growing consumer base make it an ideal location for continued investment. Beyond commercial growth, the development is also expected to generate employment opportunities, empower local businesses, and contribute to the region’s tourism sector.

SM City Zamboanga introduces several pioneering features that elevate the city’s retail experience. Among these is the first corner outdoor LED screen in Zamboanga, capable of displaying immersive 3D content—an eye-catching addition that enhances both visibility and engagement. The mall will also feature the tallest scenic elevator in Mindanao, integrated with LED displays to create a unique visual journey for visitors.

Sustainability is at the heart of the development. The mall will include Zamboanga’s first electric vehicle charging station, along with eco-friendly initiatives such as solar panels, a Trash to Cash recycling program, and an e-waste collection facility. These efforts align with SM Prime’s broader commitment to responsible and future-ready developments.

Inside, guests can look forward to a curated mix of tenants, including The SM Store, Mindpro Supermarket, Adidas, Fully Booked, JCO Reserve, and Gashapon from Japan. Lifestyle and leisure offerings are equally compelling, with an indoor garden featuring a skylight ceiling, an aviary-themed Skyplaza, an upgraded Cyberzone, a modern food court, and state-of-the-art cinemas, including Director’s Club theaters. A Paw Park and a Muslim Prayer Room further reflect the mall’s inclusive and community-centered design.

Conveniently located just minutes from the airport, seaport, and city center, SM City Zamboanga is poised to become a vibrant destination—bringing together commerce, culture, and community in one landmark space.
