Festive colors, lively drumbeats, and a spirit of generosity filled the streets of Binondo as GameZone marked the 2026 Chinese New Year with a special celebration in partnership with Filipino food favorite Tropical Hut. Held on February 17 at the iconic Tropical Hut branch along Escolta, the event brought together culture, entertainment, and community in the heart of the world’s oldest Chinatown.

Chinese New Year has long been an important cultural tradition in the Philippines, particularly in Binondo where the celebration dates back centuries. Observed since the 1500s and officially declared a nationwide special non-working holiday in 2012, the occasion continues to attract locals and tourists eager to experience the vibrant festivities associated with the Lunar New Year.

To highlight the celebration, GameZone transformed the historic Tropical Hut restaurant into a lively Chinese-inspired venue, complete with festive décor that reflected the rich traditions of the season. The visual display stood out amid the bustling streets of Chinatown, drawing the attention of visitors celebrating the holiday.
Adding to the festive energy were traditional dragon and lion dance performances that delighted the crowd. Accompanied by rhythmic drumbeats, the performances symbolized prosperity, good fortune, and the driving away of negative spirits—an important element of Chinese New Year celebrations.

GameZone also shared the festive spirit through interactive activities and giveaways. Guests received ₱100 Tropical Hut gift certificates as tokens of appreciation, while some lucky participants won ₱2,000 cash prizes after successfully answering trivia questions and completing GameZone’s roulette challenges.
As Binondo continues to serve as a cultural gateway for Chinese-Filipino traditions, GameZone, together with DigiPlus, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community events that celebrate heritage while bringing people together through shared experiences and entertainment.
