Healthcare on the Move: SM Foundation’s January Medical Outreach

Bringing healthcare closer to communities, SM Foundation opened 2026 with a series of medical missions that reached more than 2,000 beneficiaries across Metro Manila and Leyte. Through its Health and Medical Programs, the foundation mobilized volunteer doctors, healthcare workers, and its fully equipped mobile clinics to deliver free consultations, diagnostic services, and medicines directly to underserved areas.

The outreach began in San Vicente, Quezon City, where 289 residents received medical attention through a partnership with the local government and New Willore Pharma Corp. From there, the mission expanded to the Visayas, mounting three consecutive medical drives in Leyte. At SM Center Ormoc, 654 patients were served in collaboration with the Ormoc City Medical Society and the local government. The following day, 508 individuals in San Jose District, Tacloban City accessed essential healthcare services through support from the city’s health center and LGU. The final stop in Brgy. Rizal, Palompon benefited 602 residents, made possible with the assistance of the local government and BDO Network Bank.

Each site offered comprehensive care—from medical consultations and dental services to chest X-rays and electrocardiograms provided by the SM Foundation Mobile Clinic. Beneficiaries also received laboratory screenings for glucose, uric acid, and cholesterol, along with free medicines and vitamins under the “Gamot Para sa Kapwa” initiative.

According to Connie Angeles, Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs, these missions aim to promote preventive healthcare while easing the financial strain on families with limited access to medical facilities. To date, SM Foundation has served over 1.3 million patients nationwide—strengthening its parallel mission of rehabilitating public health centers to help them meet PhilHealth accreditation standards and ensure long-term community wellness.
