A landmark of diplomacy, design, and national pride rises anew on the Manila waterfront. The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC)—Asia’s first international convention center and a declared National Cultural Treasure—has unveiled a sweeping renovation that honors its storied past while embracing the demands of a digital future.

The revitalization arrives at a symbolic moment: in time for the Philippines’ hosting of the ASEAN Summit and ahead of the PICC’s 50th anniversary in 2026. Faithful to the vision of National Artist for Architecture Leandro V. Locsin, the complex retains its signature Brutalist geometry—floating volumes, monumental lines, and restrained grandeur—while seamlessly integrating contemporary systems that elevate comfort, efficiency, and technological performance.

Inside the Delegation Building, heritage meets precision restoration. The Main Lobby’s 3,068 droplights glow once more, its ceiling painstakingly hand-painted with metallic powder, marble floors refinished, and concrete walls laser-cleaned to reveal their original texture.

A more spacious entrance improves event flow without compromising security, while the refurbished Delegation Lounge offers privacy and polish for VVIP guests. Conference rooms and offices have likewise been refreshed with modern layouts and integrated technology, creating spaces that inspire productivity without losing architectural integrity.

The Secretariat Building’s distinctive wooden lattice walls and soaring ceilings remain intact, now complemented by LED screens and advanced audio systems designed for hybrid and multi-session events. In the Plenary and Reception Halls—long considered the heart of the complex—new expansive LED displays, enhanced acoustics, and flexible lighting systems support gatherings of every scale, from state summits to grand celebrations.

The Courtyard has been transformed into an open-air gallery, showcasing 20 sculptures donated by APEC member economies, anchored by National Artist Arturo Luz’s Anito. Restored to its original pebble wash flooring, the space now features an infinity waterfall, improved ponds, ambient lighting, and a 30-speaker audio system. Ideal for receptions and performances, the Courtyard offers a unique outdoor event experience.

As the country’s most visited National Cultural Treasure, the Philippine International Convention Center(PICC) doubles as a living museum, showcasing over a hundred artworks from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas collection. Masterpieces like Jose Joya’s Pagdiriwang and Arturo Luz’s Grid and Anito, alongside works by Carlos “Botong” Francisco, Napoleon Abueva, H.R. Ocampo, Ang Kiukok, and Abdulmari Asia Imao, immerse guests in the richness of Philippine art and culture.

Reopened and ready for bookings, the PICC stands not merely renovated—but reborn—reaffirming its place as a global stage shaped by Filipino excellence.
