A Homegrown App Redefining How Asia Travels

Middle) Ben-Jie Lim, Chief People and Partnerships Officer at AirAsia MOVE accepted the award at the global ceremony
held in Bahrain yesterday, attended by travel industry leaders and innovators from around the world.

From its roots in Southeast Asia to the global stage, AirAsia MOVE’s journey is a story of evolution, ambition, and staying close to the traveler. In December 2025, that journey reached another milestone as MOVE was named Asia’s Best Travel Booking App at the World Travel Tech Awards—for the third consecutive year—making it the first Asean-born online travel agent to achieve this distinction  .

The recognition, announced at a global ceremony in Manama, Bahrain, reflects more than just an award win. It signals how a platform originally built as an airline app has transformed into a full-fledged, multi-airline, multi-product travel ecosystem serving users across Asia and beyond. In a highly competitive digital travel landscape, MOVE has managed to grow while staying true to its regional identity.

Throughout 2025, the app posted strong year-on-year performance, supported by a loyal and expanding user base. Monthly active users held steady at around 15 million, while bookings continued to climb across key categories. Hotel reservations surged by nearly 40 percent, while SNAP—MOVE’s bundled flight-and-hotel offering—recorded a 30 percent increase, with cities like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Kota Kinabalu emerging as top choices for travelers.

Part of this momentum comes from deeper partnerships. Over the past year, MOVE expanded its direct airline network to more than 70 carriers, adding names such as Sri Lankan Airlines, Royal Brunei, Ethiopian Airlines, and Vietjet Air. These additions broadened options for users and reinforced MOVE’s positioning as a truly global platform, despite its Asean origins.

For CEO Nadia Omer, the third straight win underscores a larger vision: building a travel app born in Asean, designed for the region, and capable of competing on a global scale. She credits the achievement to strong teamwork, closer collaboration with tourism authorities across Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and a consistent focus on affordability, inclusivity, and fun in travel.

Looking ahead, MOVE is doubling down on innovation. Enhancements to its AI-powered AskBo chatbot, a refreshed interface, and new offerings such as MOVETIX for live-event ticketing and “Cancel for Any Reason” signal a shift toward social discovery—helping users find inspiration, plan trips, and book everything seamlessly in one place. With access to over 700 airlines and more than a million hotels worldwide, MOVE continues to shape how Asia—and the world—moves.
