Hatid Balita, Hatid Saya: A Tribute to the Unsung Heroes of Print Media

The United Print and Multimedia Group (UPMG), together with the Circulation Management Association of the Philippines (CMAP), recently gathered the country’s dedicated newsboys for a heartfelt celebration of service and community spirit. Held at The Philippine Star Building in Sucat, Parañaque, the event shined a well-deserved spotlight on the individuals who tirelessly deliver the news—rain or shine, day after day.

More than just a simple gathering, the celebration became a touching acknowledgment of the crucial role newsboys play in keeping the nation connected. While they are often unseen in the busy cycle of news production, their daily routes ensure that every issue finds its way into the hands of readers who rely on trusted print journalism. Their hard work sustains a tradition that continues to inform, educate, and unite Filipino families.

The program was led by respected industry figures including UPMG President and Journal Group of Publications Assistant Vice-President Ms. Vivienne Motomal, CMAP President and Philippine Daily Inquirer National Sales Manager Mr. Roy Raul Mendiola, and Philstar Media Group Executive Vice-President Mr. Lucien C. Dy Tioco. Each one spoke with warmth and sincerity, commending the newsboys for their resilience, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the mission of truthful communication.

Beyond the speeches, the celebration radiated with fun and camaraderie. Energetic parlor games like Bring Me and Pinoy Trivia drew laughter and friendly competition, setting the tone for an afternoon filled with joy. The raffle segment became the highlight of the event, sparking excitement as prizes were announced and everyone eagerly awaited their turn.

True to its promise, the event ensured that every attendee went home with a token of appreciation—symbolic of the industry’s gratitude for their indispensable work. But more than the gifts, it was the sense of belonging and recognition that made the day truly memorable.

Through Hatid Balita, Hatid Saya, UPMG and CMAP renewed their commitment to uplifting the unsung heroes who carry the news to every Filipino doorstep, keeping the flame of responsible journalism alive.
