The Philippines is setting its sights on becoming Asia’s premier creative hub by 2030, as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) officially launched the Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo (MPEx) at SMX Aura, Taguig City. The five-day event, held in celebration of Philippine Creative Industries Month, is the country’s first to bring together all nine creative domains and their 73 sectors under one roof.

Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque led the ceremonial opening, stressing the government’s commitment to invest in creativity as a driver of inclusive economic growth. “The DTI will continue to provide our artists and creators with the necessary infrastructure and support, like this Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo, until Filipino talent gains the global recognition it truly deserves,” Roque said, echoing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive.

At the heart of MPEx are nine dedicated creative pavilions, each highlighting different forms of Filipino artistry—from visual arts and traditional cultural expressions to digital interactive media and design. Visitors are treated to exhibits of paintings, sculptures, art toys, animation, comics, and publishing, alongside performances and showcases that reflect the depth of local talent.

Beyond the exhibits, the expo fosters dialogue and collaboration. “Malikhaing Pinoy Chats” serve as a platform for creatives, professionals, and policymakers to exchange ideas and insights on building a stronger creative economy. Meanwhile, the “Creative Matchmaking for Filipino Games” pitching session provides a launchpad for indie and student developers to present their concepts to industry leaders and investors. This year, the game “Dungeon King of Midnight Equinox” stood out, clinching the Best Game Pitch award.

Key organizations have also thrown their support behind the initiative. The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), Design Center of the Philippines, Philippine Fashion Coalition, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), and Ayala Museum are among the featured exhibitors, representing the breadth of Filipino creativity.

As a flagship project of the Malikhaing Pinoy Program through the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council (PCIDC) Secretariat, MPEx positions the Philippines to not only celebrate its creative spirit but also to claim its place on the global stage
