Groovy Grannies Dance the Day Away at SM Southmall

SM Southmall turned into a lively dance floor as it hosted “Groovy Grannies,” a week-long celebration in honor of Grandparents Day from September 1 to 7, 2025. The event transformed the Atrium, Upper Ground Level into a vibrant ballroom where grandparents, families, and mallgoers shared joyful moments through music and dance.

Throughout the week, classic ballroom hits filled the air — from timeless waltzes and tangos to upbeat cha-chas and swing numbers. Grandparents dressed in their best attire took to the floor with elegance, proving that age is no barrier to rhythm, grace, and fun. Some paired up with their long-time dance partners, while others delighted in spontaneous twirls with their grandchildren, creating heartwarming scenes that drew smiles from the crowd.

The relaxed, open setup allowed participants to enjoy the experience at their own pace. Seniors had the chance to reconnect with fellow dance enthusiasts, while families cheered on their beloved lolos and lolas. For many, it was a chance to relive cherished memories of ballroom nights, now made even more meaningful with the presence of younger generations.

Beyond the music and the movement, “Groovy Grannies” embodied what Grandparents Day is all about — celebrating love, wisdom, and legacy. The event also reinforced SM Southmall’s commitment to creating spaces where families can come together and enjoy meaningful experiences that bridge generations.

“Seeing our grandparents on the dance floor, smiling and having the time of their lives, reminds us of the importance of family bonds,” said the mall’s management team. “This celebration is a tribute to their role as the heart of every Filipino home.”

As the last notes of the ballroom classics played and the final bows were exchanged, the event left behind memories as timeless as the music itself. More than just a dance, “Groovy Grannies” was a joyful reminder that our lolos and lolas will always be the pillars of warmth, strength, and love in every family.
