Shaping the Future: How AMA is Democratizing AI Education for Every Filipino Learner

As the world races towards an AI-powered future, the AMA Education System is making sure Filipinos aren’t left behind. With the launch of AMA 2.0, the institution is rewriting the playbook for tech education in the country. On its 45th year as a pioneer in IT learning, AMA is breaking new ground by weaving artificial intelligence (AI) into every stage of education—from the first grade all the way to college.

AMA is the first school system in the Philippines to fully integrate AI in its curriculum across all levels, a bold move that seeks to nurture not just digital competence, but a new generation of Filipino innovators, problem solvers, and ethical tech leaders.

Starting Young: Building AI Foundations in Grade School

Unlike most schools where AI is taught as an advanced or elective subject, AMA begins AI education as early as Grade 1. Integrated into the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) subject, young learners are introduced to digital tools, smart assistants, and AI-powered apps in a way that is age-appropriate, engaging, and ethically guided.

By starting early, we take away the mystery and fear surrounding AI,” said Dr. Amos, AMA’s Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We want our students to see AI as a creative ally, not just a distant concept.”

Developing Thinkers: AI in Senior High School

By Senior High School, particularly within the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track, students take a deeper dive into AI’s practical applications. Here, they begin using AI to solve real-world problems—whether through content generation, data analysis, or process automation.

But more than just being users of AI, AMA challenges its students to think critically about these technologies. They are taught to question outputs, identify biases, and make ethical choices in an increasingly automated world.

Pioneering the Country’s First Bachelor’s Degree in AI

At the college level, AMA leads another first: the introduction of a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (BS AI)—the first full-fledged AI degree program in the Philippines.

This cutting-edge program equips students with essential AI competencies like machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and cloud-based AI deployment through platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. For those pursuing degrees in BS Computer Science (BSCS) or BS Information Technology (BSIT), AMA also offers an AI specialization track.

Students can expect exposure to:

  • Deep learning and neural network design
  • Fine-tuning large language models (LLMs)
  • Ethical governance and responsible AI innovation
  • Development of AI solutions for business and industry

In addition, the curriculum aligns with globally recognized certifications such as Google TensorFlow Developer and AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty, preparing students to compete in both local and international job markets.

Flexible Learning: AI for Every Filipino

AMA 2.0 doesn’t stop at traditional classrooms. Through its Open Distance Education Learning (ODeL) program, the university makes AI education accessible to Filipinos nationwide, even in remote and underserved areas. This flexible setup combines online learning with in-person support at AMA’s network of Education Support and Admission Centers across the country.

Students in ODeL can pursue full degrees in BSIT and BSCS with the option to specialize in AI, all while balancing other life commitments.

Building the Future, Bridging the Gap

At AMA, we believe no Filipino should be left behind in the AI revolution,” said Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V, AMA’s Chairman and Founder. “We are not just teaching our students how to use technology—we are preparing them to lead, to innovate, and to shape the digital world of tomorrow.”

The AI wave is transforming industries from healthcare to finance, transportation to education. Through AMA 2.0, Filipino students are now being given a seat at the table—not just as consumers of technology, but as builders, thinkers, and creators.

What AMA 2.0 Offers:

  • Early AI exposure starting from Grade 1
  • Ethical, hands-on, project-based learning throughout Senior High School
  • The Philippines’ first AI degree program, plus AI specializations in IT and Computer Science
  • Pathways to international certifications and industry-driven training
  • Flexible learning options through ODeL for students nationwide

A National Commitment

AMA 2.0 is more than just a curriculum update—it’s a national call to action. In a world rapidly shaped by artificial intelligence, AMA is stepping up to ensure that the next generation of Filipino innovators is ready not only to participate but to lead.
