SM Prime Powers the Road to Sustainability with Nationwide EV Charging Expansion

An EV Charging Station at SM North Edsa highlights SM Prime’s commitment to promote sustainable mobility.

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is steering the Philippines closer to a greener future with the continued expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) charging network. As of the first quarter of 2025, the property giant has already installed 131 EV charging stations across its extensive portfolio of malls and office developments nationwide. The company is set to add at least 50 more stations before the year ends, reinforcing its commitment to green infrastructure and low-emission transport.

The initiative is part of SM Prime’s broader sustainability strategy to integrate clean energy solutions into its urban developments. By installing charging facilities not only in commercial areas but also in upcoming residential communities and leisure estates, SM Prime is working to make sustainable mobility more accessible to the everyday Filipino.

As an accredited Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) Provider-Operator by the Department of Energy (DOE), SM Prime ensures its facilities meet national standards and safety protocols. This compliance affirms its position as a reliable partner in the country’s transition to cleaner transportation solutions.

“Integrating sustainable practices into our operations is a core part of SM Prime’s long-term strategy,” said SM Prime President Jeffrey C. Lim. “Through this initiative, we are also supporting the government’s vision for an inclusive and future-ready EV ecosystem.”

The DOE has laid out an ambitious roadmap targeting a 25% EV share in the passenger vehicle market by 2030 and 50% by 2040. This plan includes the widespread deployment of EV charging infrastructure from 2023 to 2040—a goal SM Prime is helping advance with its ongoing projects.

SM Prime’s efforts align with the government’s push for reduced carbon emissions and a healthier environment. The company’s vast presence across the country, combined with its commitment to innovation and sustainability, positions it as a key player in shaping the Philippines’ low-carbon transport landscape.

By making EV charging stations readily available, SM Prime is not just building infrastructure—it’s encouraging a cultural shift toward eco-conscious habits. “We are focused on making sustainability practical and accessible,” Lim added. “Expanding our EV charging network is one way we are enabling Filipinos to adopt greener habits as part of daily life.”

With these efforts, SM Prime continues to lead the way in sustainable urban development and environmental stewardship.
