SM Prime Sets Stage for Global Events with SMXCITE

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is taking a bold step to elevate the Philippines’ status in the global events arena with the launch of the SMX Center for International Trade and Exhibitions (SMXCITE)—a P1.7 billion investment poised to reshape the country’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) landscape. Rising within the bustling SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Complex, SMXCITE is set to open by the first quarter of 2027, doubling the current capacity of SMX Convention Center Manila with over 18,000 square meters of leasable trade hall space.

This strategic expansion signals SM Prime’s confidence in the country’s growing appeal as a regional hub for business tourism. “We see strong potential in positioning Manila as a competitive destination for international exhibitions,” said Peggy Angeles, Executive Vice President of SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. “SMXCITE is our response to that vision—a venue that meets global standards while serving local needs.”

The state-of-the-art facility will comprise two expansive buildings, both designed to accommodate large-scale events such as international trade shows, corporate conventions, product launches, and public exhibitions. Once completed, SMXCITE and SMX Manila will offer a combined footprint of more than 35,000 square meters, making the MOA Complex one of the most robust MICE destinations in Southeast Asia.

This development also aligns with SM Prime’s commitment to sustainability. SMXCITE will incorporate energy-efficient features such as the use of natural daylight to reduce energy consumption, following the eco-conscious blueprint of SMX Manila.

Beyond its scale and green design, SMXCITE strengthens the group’s national convention portfolio, which spans nearly 60,000 square meters across eight venues in key cities including Taguig, Davao, Bacolod, Cebu, Olongapo, and Clark. These strategically located venues allow SM Prime to support both local and international events, reinforcing the Philippines’ place in the global convention map.

With SMXCITE, SM Prime isn’t just constructing a building—it’s investing in the country’s future as a business events destination. As the MICE industry rebounds and demand for premier event spaces grows, SMXCITE is set to become a cornerstone for trade, collaboration, and economic opportunity in the region.
