Kindness in Every Step: MR.DIY Brings Hope to Highland Classrooms

Smiles and sunshine filled the day as MR.DIY, in partnership with the Police Community Outreach Program and Ms. Analiza Pelwa, brought joy to young learners. A total of 70 school children from Asin Elementary School participated in the AOK Outreach Program held on April 11.

In the quiet, mountainous regions of Benguet and Mountain Province, where children walk for hours to reach school and supplies are a rare sight, MR.DIY made a meaningful journey—one driven not by business, but by compassion. Through its Acts of Kindness Outreach Program, the home improvement brand proved once again that real impact starts with a willing heart and a long road ahead.

The team’s journey began with an 8-hour uphill drive, snaking through the remote landscapes of the Cordilleras. The final leg of the trip wasn’t any easier, requiring a 15-minute trek on foot and a cautious crossing over a hanging bridge. The dry heat made the effort even more exhausting, but the mission ahead fueled their determination.

Mr. Charles Salecina, Head of Retail Marketing of MR.DIY, is all smiles alongside 60 school children of Cupotan Primary School during the Acts of Kindness (AOK) Outreach Program held on April 12.

This year, MR.DIY’s outreach focused on two secluded schools: Asin Elementary School in Tuba and Cupotan Primary School in Bauko. These schools are often left out of donation drives due to their location, but MR.DIY made sure that no distance would stand between these students and the support they deserve.

When the team finally arrived, they were met with wide eyes, excited chatter, and warm smiles from children eager to learn. School and hygiene kits were distributed — simple gifts that meant the world to students who rarely receive new supplies. The gratitude on their faces turned exhaustion into joy for the visiting team.

In total, 130 children across the two schools benefitted from the outreach. Yet, beyond the numbers, it was the exchange of stories, laughter, and heartfelt moments that left a lasting impression. For MR.DIY, it wasn’t just a donation — it was a message that these children matter.

More than a one-time event, the Acts of Kindness program is rooted in sustainability. MR.DIY aims not only to give, but to uplift. The supplies were chosen with care to support students’ long-term growth and academic journey. It’s about planting seeds for brighter futures.

A school kit for a smile as MR.DIY teams up with PNP’s Police Community Outreach Program to support the young learners of Cupotan Primary School.

“This outreach is a reflection of our company’s commitment to communities in need,” said Charles Salecina, Head of Retail Marketing at MR.DIY Philippines. “We hope these small acts help create big dreams and remind every child that they are seen, valued, and capable.”

Analiza Pelwa, MR.DIY’s CSR partner and a native of the Cordilleras, was deeply moved by the visit. For her, the mission goes beyond logistics—it’s personal. Growing up in similar conditions, she understands how powerful encouragement and resources can be to a young child trying to learn against the odds.

Through its partnership with the PNP’s Police Community Outreach Program, MR.DIY ensured the safety and security of all outreach participants while also providing free haircut services to school children at Asin Elementary School in Tuba, Benguet.

The effort was made possible with the vital help of the Philippine National Police through their Community Outreach Program, which provided support in ensuring the safety and success of the trip. It was a true collaboration among private and public sectors, united by a common goal.

As MR.DIY continues to expand, its heart for service remains constant. With over 750 stores nationwide, the company uses its reach not only to deliver products but to make a difference — proving that kindness can travel anywhere, and that even the most remote child deserves the chance to learn, dream, and thrive.
