As National University (NU) celebrates 125 years of academic excellence in 2025, it reaches a new milestone with the opening of two new campuses in Cebu and Las Piñas, increasing its total footprint to 14 campuses nationwide. This expansion, in partnership with the SM Group, is expected to boost enrollment to 85,000 students, reinforcing NU’s commitment to accessible and high-quality education for Filipinos.
NU’s expansion is deeply rooted in its vision of education as a driver of social good. Since acquiring NU in 2008, the Sy family has been dedicated to breaking barriers in education, inspired by Henry Sy, Sr.’s belief that education is key to lifting families out of poverty. “Providing access to quality education is at the core of SM’s commitment to social good,” said Dr. Renato Carlos H. Ermita, Jr., NU President and CEO. “Our goal is to ensure that every Filipino, regardless of background, has the opportunity to excel.”

In line with this mission, NU maintains an open admissions policy and provides support programs to help Senior High School graduates transition smoothly into college. Its efforts have gained international recognition, with NU earning a QS 3 Stars rating, including 5 Stars in Employability and high ratings in Teaching, Social Impact, and Facilities.
With a focus on global competitiveness, NU is strengthening research and faculty development, aiming to enhance international mobility for its students. “We are committed to transforming NU into a research-oriented university that prepares students for the global stage,” Dr. Ermita added.
With SM’s continued support, NU remains dedicated to shaping future leaders and driving social progress through education, ensuring that Filipino students can compete on a global scale.
