MR.DIY Pioneers Inclusivity with Store Internship Program for Neurodiverse Learners

MR.DIY proudly welcomes its first neurodiverse interns as part of its Store Internship for Special Learners program. Through this initiative, MR.DIY aims to provide meaningful work experience, fostering inclusivity and empowerment for neurodiverse individuals in the workplace.

MR.DIY Philippines has launched the Store Internship for Neurodiverse Learners, an innovative initiative designed to provide individuals on the autism spectrum with meaningful retail work experience. This program reflects MR.DIY’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and aligns with its broader Acts of Kindness (AOK) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to create equitable opportunities in the workplace.

In collaboration with Candent Learning Haus in Parañaque and Marvelous Minds Tutorial Center in Marikina, the program bridges classroom learning with practical retail experience. Neurodiverse interns gain hands-on exposure to customer service, visual merchandising, and store operations as part of their life skills curriculum. The program also fosters understanding and support among store staff and customers, encouraging kindness, patience, and awareness in daily interactions.

The internship officially launched on November 5 with a Memorandum of Agreement between MR.DIY and Marvelous Minds. The program will run for at least 10 weeks, during which interns work structured shifts under the guidance of their teachers. This supportive environment allows interns to adapt to the retail world while honing their skills and building confidence.

MR.DIY’s newest store interns, together with representatives of MR.DIY Philippines and Marvelous Minds Tutorial Center celebrate the partnership of their institution with MR. DIY’s Store Internship for Neurodiverse Learners. The program equips the interns with work skills through hands-on customer service and visual merchandising tasks.

Interns bring unique strengths to their roles, such as exceptional focus and attention to detail, which contribute to their growth and independence. Caleb, one of the interns, expressed his excitement to “be productive again,” while Isaac looks forward to “learning new things.” Stephen eagerly anticipates “helping customers and managing deliveries,” and Red is ready to assist shoppers and enhance their experiences.

Parents of the interns shared their gratitude for the program’s impact on their children’s personal and professional development. One parent noted, “This opportunity helps my son gain practical experience and prepares him for life beyond home and school.”

MR.DIY plans to expand the initiative in 2025, aiming to create more opportunities for neurodiverse individuals across its nationwide network. “We are committed to supporting you every day,” shared MR.DIY’s Head of Legal. “Each of you brings unique talents that enrich our team, and we’re excited to be part of your journey.”

With this groundbreaking program, MR.DIY is setting a new standard for workplace inclusivity, empowering neurodiverse individuals to thrive while fostering a culture of understanding and acceptance.
