In a significant move to support local agriculture and bolster food security, Figaro Innovation and Development Inc. (FIDI), a subsidiary of Figaro Coffee Group, has entered into a strategic partnership with the San Jose Workers’ Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SJWMPC) and the Batangas Organic and Natural Farming Agriculture Cooperative (BONFAC). The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement, signifying the start of joint efforts to enhance local farming and tackle food security challenges in the Philippines.

The signing ceremony took place on October 11, 2024, in San Jose, Batangas, and featured key leaders from all three organizations. The partnership is aligned with broader efforts to promote sustainable agricultural practices and provide innovative solutions to local food challenges. Notably, this event coincided with World Egg Day, drawing attention to the importance of local food production and the role of agriculture in combating food insecurity.

Ms. Cecille Aldueza Virtucio, Chairperson of both SJWMPC and BONFAC, highlighted the importance of the new commissary and cold storage facility, which had been developed in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture and the National Meat Inspection Service. She remarked, “On this World Egg Day, we celebrate by taking another step forward in ensuring food security. The inauguration of the SJWMPC Commissary and Cold Storage Facility will help provide affordable, nutritious food, particularly focusing on chicken and eggs. Our partnership with FIDI strengthens our ability to combat food inflation and support local families.”

Mr. Ace Azarraga, Brand and Partnership Director at Figaro Coffee Group, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This partnership marks a crucial moment in connecting our local farmers with FIDI. By supporting coffee farmers in Batangas and other provinces, we are staying true to our mission at Figaro Foundation—empowering agricultural communities across the Philippines. This partnership is just the beginning of a larger initiative to ensure sustainable growth and success for Filipino farmers.”

FIDI President, Mr. Jose Petroñio Español III, also expressed his support for the initiative, acknowledging the hard work of local farmers. “The recent celebration of National Farmers Day and the inauguration of the food processing facility symbolize the dedication of Filipino farmers. Figaro is committed to supporting their efforts to create a comprehensive food production value chain that will enable Filipino produce to reach both local and global markets.”

This partnership aims to develop food processing capabilities, ensuring that Filipino farmers’ products reach a broader audience. Additionally, it seeks to tackle food inflation and empower farmers through innovation, offering a promising future for sustainable agricultural growth in the country.
